Happy Raksha Bandhan History: Raksha Bandhan is also called Nariyali Poonam. Raksha Bandhan comes after Guru Purnima. Guru Poonam means which one which lifts us up from petite to colossal a person who was wandering in births & deaths and sensual pleasures is filled with Godly peace, knowledge, samadhi and becomes one with God. but worldly attraction, desires, greed cause the downfall of the creatures (non-liberated being).

it prays for protection to God, Guru on this occasion by tieing them sacred thread mentally. The sacred thread is not tied physically to God and Guru (like a sister to her brothers ) we can do it but by thought and we get protected too. Our relation with God & Guru is more dense & subtle than that of brother & sister.

Why is Raksha Bandhan celebrated? There are many ancient story behind raksha bandhan. The first story is of Rajabali. When Lord Vishnu asked for heaven in one step and earth in the second step in Vamana avatar, Rajabali lost and went to the abyss.

Rajabali did austerities and pleased God with the power of his devotion and Rajabali took the word from God that you stay in front of me day and night and Lord Vishnu had to become the gatekeeper of King Bali. During this time, Lakshmi Mata became distraught. Then Narad Muni explained it to him.

At the behest of Narad Muni, Lakshmi went to Rajabali and tied her rakhi and made her brother and brought her husband Lord Vishnu with her as a gift. That day was the full moon day of the Shravan month. From the same day, Raksha Bandhan was celebrated in many places.

What Is Raksha Bandhan And Why Is It Celebrated?

The second story is related to Devraj Indra. According to which the Devasur struggle continued for 12 years and the gods were repeatedly defeated. Father Brahma preached to Indrani on the defense legislation. She tied Indra by making Raksha Bandhan.

The effect of which led to the victory of all the gods including Indra. The rakhi was then tied by the wife to protect the husband. But gradually it was tied by the sisters to protect the brothers.
